Linux Lite, the lightweight distro that requires only 1GB of RAM, has released its most complete version to date

Linux Lite is a relatively young distribution that released its first stable version in 2014 and during 2020 it has evolved significantly as a modern yet lightweight operating system that works well on low-resource machines.

They claim that their latest version, Linux Lite 5.2, is the most complete and feature-rich version they have made to date. Best of all, both the minimum and low system requirements are still very modest.

This distribution tries to be an alternative to Windows for those who are still stuck on Windows XP or Windows 7, offering a relatively painless transition with an interface that is as familiar as possible.

Only 1 GHz and 1 GB of RAM

Linux Lite has very modest hardware requirements, although the ISO is not exactly small, weighs around 1.4GB and is only available in the 64-bit version. You can download it from this link.

This distro is based on Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS and uses the Linux 5.4 kernel. The desktop environment is a customized version of XFCE and includes a number of basic and non-basic applications and utilities for you to use.

With version 5.2 they have completely removed support for Adobe Flash. Instead, applications such as SimpleScreenRecorder for screen recording and popular video conferencing tools Zoom and Microsoft Teams have been added.

The minimum requirements are as follows:

• 1 GHz processor
• 768 MB of RAM
• 8 GB of storage
• VGA display with 1024×768 resolution

The recommended hardware for the best experience is:

• 1.5 GHz processor or faster
• 1 GB of RAM
• 20 GB of storage VGA, DVI or HDMI display with a resolution greater than 1366×768.
