With the Q2 Monochrom, Leica is launching a new camera model of the Q series. The monochrome full-frame sensor of the compact camera was recently developed, writes Leica in a press release. Not only is the sensor monochrome. The camera design was also kept monochrome in gray and white. The manufacturer deliberately avoided the red Leica logo. The camera is protected against dust and water splashes according to the IP 52 standard.
The menu structure has been simplified and adapted for the black and white camera. The color settings are deleted and a tint setting has been added.
The features of the new compact camera
The Leica Q2 Monochrom is equipped with a 47.3 megapixel full frame black and white sensor. This makes it possible to record images up to ISO 100,000 and 4K video. The compact camera has a Leica Summilux 28mm f / 1.7 ASPH lens. With a large initial aperture, the lens should allow for good images even in difficult lighting situations. Plus, you can switch to macro mode with a close-up limit of 17cm directly on the lens.
The camera has an integrated digital zoom of up to 75mm. You can select a section of the image that corresponds to a focal length of 28, 35, 50 or 75 millimeters. The image is saved as a JPEG in the cropped resolution of 47.3, 30, 14.7, or 6.6 megapixels. At the same time, the whole image is saved in full resolution as DNG.
The compact camera has an OLED viewfinder with a resolution of 3.68 megapixels. The brightness of each pixel can be adjusted using OLED technology. According to Leica, the camera can shoot 10 images per second at the full resolution of 47.3 megapixels, and the autofocus makes images clearer in 0.15 seconds.
The Wi-Fi connection makes it easy to use
Using a Wi-Fi connection, the camera can be adjusted with the smartphone and activated remotely. Additionally, the images can be uploaded directly to social media.
The Leica Q2 Monochrom is now available in specialist photo shops for a recommended retail price of 6150 francs.
Since the end of September Leica has been offering another compact camera, the V-Lux 5 as a kit with suitable accessories. Read more about this here.
