The Italian club is under investigation for suspected fraud in testing the covid-19.
“The Covid-19 test scandal unmasks the farce of Lazio. It’s true”, reads the front page of the Sunday newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Three athletes from Lazio’s main team, more precisely Immobile, Strakosha and Lucas Leiva, tested positive for the new coronavirus before the Champions League match against Zenit.
The scandal began on Friday after Lazio doctor Ivo Pulcini announced that all players had reported negative results in the covid-19 projection and would be available for this Sunday’s match against Juventus.
However, that negative result turned positive again, when the players were tested in a different laboratory, according to Notícias ao Minuto.
If this adulteration of the results is confirmed, the punishment could not only be sporting, but also criminal, as Immobile, Lucas Leiva and Strakosha can be accused of spreading the SARS CoV-2 virus, knowing that they were required to comply with prophylactic isolation, guarantees the same source.
The Romanians risk being fined, losing points in the league or even being excluded from Serie A.
