A lesbian couple is at the center of the romantic comedy “The Happiest Season”. Kristen Stewart explains why the film is so important to her.

During the holidays, Abby (Kristen Stewart) finally meets the family of her friend Harper (Mackenzie Davis). There she discovers, however, that Harper has not yet been declared a lesbian by her conservative parents.

Actress Kristen Stewart calls the film “extraordinary”: “There was no such film a few years ago,” the 30-year-old says in an interview with Variety magazine.

“It’s a gray area”

The project also raised the issue of representation in the film industry: while Stewart also has a private relationship with a woman, his film partner Davis is not a lesbian, explains Stewart in an interview. However, he believes it is fundamentally possible for heterosexual actors to embody queer figures as well if they are particularly suited to the role.

“It’s a gray area. If you are telling a story about a community and they don’t welcome you, then you shouldn’t. But if that’s the case and you bring a perspective that might be helpful, there’s nothing wrong with learning from each other. ”

Stewart, who suddenly found herself in the limelight at age 18 following her success in “Twilight,” has recently starred in many independent films, including “Certain Women” and “Jean Seberg – Against All Enemies.” He has been collaborating with screenwriter Dylan Meyer since 2019.

She herself wouldn’t have wanted to shoot the film with any other colleague, says Stewart.
