Kraken has announced that it will help fund open source Ethereum projects, the first for the US-based cryptocurrency exchange.
In a blog post Thursday, Kraken said he will partner with Gitcoin, an Ethereum-based community fundraising platform, to reward developers who build blockchain’s “most essential software”.
The exchange will reach up to $ 150,000 in donations made to Gitcoin’s “Ethereum Infrastructure Tech” category in the eighth round of Gitcoin Grants.
From December 3 to 18, developers and teams who reach their funding goals via Gitcoin will be able to receive a matching grant from the exchange, Kraken said.
Gitcoin maintains an open market for connecting developers and donors, while providing opportunities for builders to generate relationships and contribute to projects that attempt to advance open source technology infrastructure.
“Ethereum and DeFi are based on open source software,” said Kevin Owocki, CEO of Gitcoin. “With their generous contribution, Kraken is thrilled to give back to the volunteer developers who build the infrastructure of the crypto economy.”
Kraken also recently funded Brink, the independent funding organization for the Bitcoin open source developer community, providing it with a $ 150,000 grant last month.
To date, the exchange has claimed to have donated over $ 500,000 to blockchain projects while helping several full-time developers find full-time employment.
