Gladbach dominates Schachtar in the Champions League and wins 4-0. Two Swiss are on the scorer’s list, one of them spectacular.
The Swiss at Borussia Mönchengladbach shine on this Champions League evening. Goalkeeper Yann Sommer keeps the box clean, Denis Zakaria returns to the field in the premier class after a long injury, Nico Elvedi heads the net and Breel Embolo hits beautifully with a kick in the head (see video above). Only the fifth Swiss, Michael Lang, sits on the bench.
Thanks in part to strong Swiss internationals, Gladbach easily won 4-0 against Shakhtar Donetsk. This means the German Group B leaders remain unbeaten and have the best chance of reaching the top sixteen in the Champions League. Three weeks ago, Borussia triumphed 6-0 in the first leg in Kiev.
I thrash with the decision
Again, the Gladbachers were clearly better. Captain Lars Stindl started his tour with a dream pass on Thuram after an opportunity recently offered by Florian Neuhaus. Sergej Kriwzow knocked down the French national striker, Stindl transformed from point to person and with a precise corner kick shape then allowed Elvedi to score 2-0. It was the defender’s first goal in the Champions League.
The decision was made just before half-time – with a dream goal: Embolo, initially failed at the post (21st), transformed a failed Ukrainian rescue with a kick in the head in the six-yard area for the 3- 0. For Embolo it was his first goal of the season. “The relief is obviously great”, he told DAZN and smiles at his great goal: “That we fell … But it’s nice that I managed to bring a goal with me.”

Donetsk, who did not attract attention in the first half, tried everything again after the change and had more possession. But the guests were no longer dangerous. Gladbach, on the other hand, spared his strength for Saturday’s Bundesliga match against Schalke 04 and stepped forward again. Wendt’s free-kick flank missed both friend and foe: he went into the net for the final score.
Manchester City wins
Manchester City qualified early for the round of 16. Coach Pep Guardiola’s team won 1-0 at Olympiacos Piraeus. With four wins out of four games, the English are at the top of the table in Group C.
