The series “Das Boot: O Submarino” premiered in 2019 on the AMC channel, and is a new television adaptation of the film “The Odyssey of Submarine 96”, by Wolfgang Petersen, which in turn adapts a literary work by German writer Lothar-Gunther Buchheim.
The narrative traces two parallel stories, on land and at sea, inside a submarine of the Nazi regime, reflecting on the “devastation caused by the Second World War”, read in the synopsis of the series. In the second season the action has been extended to New York and in the third Lisbon will be one of the scenarios, that of the arch of the German officer Hagen Forster (Tom Wlaschiha).
Joana Ribeiro joins the vast cast of a series that includes, among others, Franz Dinda, Ray Stevenson, Ernst Stotzner and Luise Wolfram.
“Das Boot” is a creation of Johannes Betz and Tony Saint and has already received more than a dozen awards, notably in Germany.
Joana Ribeiro, 28, has worked mainly in television and film, debuting in 2012 in the soap opera “Dancin’Days”.
In cinema, after having participated in short films and the feature film “Uma uma Hora Incerta” (2015), by Carlos Saboga, he made his debut in international productions with “O Homem que Matou D. Quixote”, by Terry Gilliam.
Subsequently, the actress was part of the cast of “Infinito” by Antoine Fuqua, “Fatima”, by Marco Pontecorvo, and in the series “The Black Tower” and “Glória”, this one directed by Tiago Guedes and which will be the first series Portuguese produced for Netflix.
Joana Ribeiro also participated in the new films by Bruno Gascon (“A Sombra”) and Carlos Conceição (“Um Fio de Baba Escarlate”).
