Do we really need it? At its latest event, Oppo unveiled the Oppo X 2021, where the display can be pulled out and then enlarged.
At his “Inno Day” event, which didn’t just take place digitally and where real people could enter, there were several new products to admire. Among them was the Oppo X 2021 – and for once it looks like we’re turning into a real device that otherwise only leaks through patent leaks as a design.

After folding smartphones: the next big thing?
In fact, since I’ve been in the world of tech blogging, and it’s been a few years, there was the big dream of the foldable smartphone. It has now been made one way or another, by both Motorola and Samsung. So you need to find a new format that might seem a bit impractical at first glance, but that sets new standards for technology.
Oppo has therefore decided to present Oppo X 2021, a concept smartphone with a removable or “rollable” OLED display. From a screen diagonal of 6.7 inches, it can be expanded to 7.4 inches. We have not yet, but in future it will also be possible to remove it continuously so that everyone can use their own personal dimension. How the idea works, Oppo shows in this tweet:
The # OPPOX2021 is the latest achievement from OPPO’s constant exploration of mobile phone form factors. It is built with a 6.7-inch rollable OLED display that expands to 7.4-inch. # OPPOINNODAY20 pic.twitter.com/T96DOQ8KZm

Bauart should have advantages over leaflets
Compared to the previously mentioned foldable, that is, the foldable or foldable smartphones, this design eliminates predetermined gaps or breaking points, which have been repeatedly criticized due to immature products.
What hardware is inside the Oppo X 2021 is still not entirely clear, although you’ll never be able to buy it. I think it was shown more for promotional purposes and that we are still a long way from mass production, but I would like it to be taught differently.

Apart from that: do you think the concept makes sense? 6.7 inches isn’t huge enough – how much value can 7.4 inches offer? I’m curious about your opinion!
