BAGHDAD, November 14 (Xinhua) – The Iraqi Ministry of Health reported 2,419 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing the number of infections nationwide to 516,915.
It also reported 43 new deaths and 2,370 resolved cases, bringing the death toll from the infectious virus to 11,623 and total recoveries to 444,226 in the country.
A total of 3,111,672 tests have been carried out across the country since the outbreak in February, including 16,593 during the day, according to the release.
Meanwhile, Iraqi Health Minister Hassan al-Tamimi held a meeting to discuss means of increasing testing capacity to contain the spread of the coronavirus, the ministry said in a separate statement.
Al-Tamimi said the need to build new oxygen factories in all provinces of the country to treat COVID-19 cases, as well as activating health awareness campaigns among citizens, according to the release.
He also stressed the need to activate inspection teams to implement the ministry’s health instructions in private sector institutions such as pharmacies, shops, clinics, private hospitals, restaurants and laboratories, the statement added.
Iraq has taken a series of measures to contain the pandemic since February, when the country’s first case of coronavirus appeared.
China helped Iraq fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
From March 7 to April 26, a Chinese team of seven medical experts spent 50 days in Iraq to help contain the disease, during which they helped build a PCR lab and install an advanced CT scanner in Baghdad.
Since March 7, China has also sent three batches of medical aid to Iraq. Enditem
