Former film mogul Harvey Weinstein (68), who is in prison for sex offenses, may have contracted Covid-19 according to a media report. He was tested for corona virus on Tuesday morning (local time), celebrity portal “TMZ” reported. Consequently, the result is now expected.

According to the report, Weinstein is unwell, isolated with a fever. Doctors assumed it was Covid-19. Weinstein had a heart condition, high blood pressure and spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal), he said in a statement from which they quoted “TMZ” and “People”.

Sentenced to 23 years in prison

Hundreds of women accused Weinstein of sexual assault. In New York, the former Hollywood producer (“The English Patient”, “Django Unchained”) was found guilty of rape and sexual assault by a jury in late February and sentenced to 23 years in prison in March. He is currently serving his sentence in a New York State prison.

In January, Los Angeles prosecutors filed two rape and sexual assault charges against Weinstein. Another case came in April. There are now charges from a total of five women for a period from 2004 to 2013. If found guilty, he faces life imprisonment.

For the Los Angeles trial, authorities took steps to extradite Weinstein to California. There is a hearing scheduled for December.
