He is the absolute ruler on two wheels. When Marc Marquez drives, he usually wins too. Solo: Marquez doesn’t drive. He was injured all year. And now the 2021 MotoGP season is rumored to be in great danger.
The Spaniard recently announced that he will definitely not be returning this season. Rumors have been circulating for weeks about the health of the 8-time world champion. There is talk of an upcoming third operation after he broke his right arm on July 19 at the Jerez GP.
The healing process is significantly delayed
The “Gazzetta dello Sport” now tries to shed light on the darkness. According to information from the Italian sports newspaper, the bone healing process is significantly delayed. There is a risk of pseudarthrosis. This is called when a broken bone does not heal or when it takes more than six months.
In the Marquez case, that would be fine. One of the reasons for this pseudarthrosis can be insufficient immobilization or premature mobilization. And that’s exactly what happened to the 27-year-old.
Let’s remember: after the fatal crash in Jerez on July 19, he was operated on and given a titanium plate. Just four days after the operation, he returned to his Honda to take part in the second Jerez GP. The attempt failed, a second operation was required – again with a plate – and the 2020 season failed for the reigning champion.
But due to the two plates (and the associated holes in the bone) the bone is now weakened, according to the Journal. The healing process is delayed accordingly.
A transplant risks taking a six-month break
Panic is slowly spreading to Honda and to Marquez’s field. It is Marc’s turn to consult various doctors. He was at the Red Bull training center in Austria and at a Mayo Clinic in the United States. A new way, after always relying on the medical examiner Dr. Xavier Mir counted.
If the risk of pseudarthrosis is finally confirmed, another operation is required. According to the Journal, a bone marrow transplant would be used to promote bone healing and growth. Recovery after this operation would take up to six months, but better than the uncertainty of pseudarthrosis and perhaps even longer failure.
Season start in March – Honda is already looking for a replacement
But as the season is expected to start in March 2021, Marquez Honda’s employer is already looking for a replacement. Cal Crutchlow was therefore offered a partial contract for 2021 as Marquez risks losing part of the season. But the British refused.
Marquez manager Emilio Alzamora does not want to confirm the revelations. But he says: “Now it takes patience and waiting. If there are problems, it is because at the beginning things weren’t going well “. (Pmi)
