Astronomers from the University of Hawaii determined that a huge asteroid was advancing towards the earth increasing its speed. Called the god of chaos (Aphophis), the diameter of this meteorite is approximately 304 meters.

Aphophis was discovered at Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona on June 19, 2004. Since then, the asteroid has completed its rotation around the sun in less than one Earth year. The researchers spotted Aphophis with the Subaru telescope earlier this year and determined that it has gained speed. According to the research in question, the asteroid’s body heats up with its own energy.

“The new observations we made earlier this year were enough to reveal the acceleration of Aphophis,” said Dave Tholen, an astronomer. With this speed, it is possible that a collision scenario will occur on 12 April 2068 ”.

THE 3TH HIGHEST RISK ON NASA’S TABLE

Aphophis holds the third highest threat title on NASA’s Sentry Risk Chart. Furthermore, this table estimates the probability that the meteorite will collide with the earth after 48 years, or even within this period, equal to 1 in 150 thousand.

If the asteroid called the God of Chaos hits the earth, it will release as much energy as 880 million tons of TNT.
