The Alcides Carneiro University Hospital, in Campina Grande, is holding the appointments of the collective Blue November, an awareness campaign on the prevention of prostate cancer, from 11 to 13 November. There will be 300 vacancies and contact with the hospital will need to be made by calling 2101-5640, from 8:00 to 11:00 and from 13:00 to 17:00. You need to have the SUS card in hand when planning.
The target audience will be men over the age of 45. Between November 16 and 27, patients who have made the appointment will undergo a PSA test (which measures the level of a substance produced by the prostate, Prostate Specific Antigen). Therefore, the participants in the mutirão go to consultations with urologists who already bring the results of their examinations. Consultations with specialists will take place in early December.
Prostate Cancer
In Brazil, prostate cancer is the second most common among men, behind only non-melanoma skin cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute (Inca), for this year, the estimate is 65,840 new cases in Brazil. In Paraíba, the forecast is 1,740 new occurrences.
According to the Inca, in its early stage, prostate cancer has a silent evolution and many patients do not have any symptoms. In the advanced stage, it can cause bone pain, urinary symptoms or, if more severe, generalized infection or kidney failure.
