WhatsApp has just activated temporary messages which they self-destruct every 7 days in mobile apps, desktop apps and WhatsApp Web. The company announced the availability of the feature last December after extensively testing it in beta, and it is finally available for all users, as we have seen.
The idea is that, once activated, the function deletes both our messages received and those sent in a chat, including audio and other multimedia contents. Today we will explain how to use ephemeral messages of WhatsApp, WhatsApp Desktop and WhatsApp Web.
Activating temporary messages is as simple as logging into your user profile
Activating temporary messages in a chat doesn’t have much science. In the case of a single user, in iOS and Android we will have to go to a contact from the Chat panel, and once they have entered their conversation, we will touch the name.
This will take us to “Contact Information” menu where we will find the option “Temporary Messages”. Once we play there WhatsApp will explain how it works and will allow us to activate and deactivate the option.
In WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp Desktop lThe steps are similar to what we’ve seen on mobile devices. We access the contact information of the chat in which we want to activate temporary messages, and we mark the option as we see below:
By activating this option we will have the advantages and possibilities offered by self-destructing messages. Here’s how the company explains the peculiarities and limits of this novelty:

Each of the users of a normal conversation (between two people) can activate the function, but in groups, the ability to do so will only be in the hands of the directors.

Although the temporary messages disappear after a week, it is important to remember what WhatsApp indicates: the notification preview may not be cleared and this includes Android, iOS, macOS and in this case Windows 10.

If you reply to a short message such as an appointment, even after seven days, the above message may continue to be displayed.

If a temporary message is forwarded to a group where temporary messages are disabled, will remain visible in the forwarded chat.

If a user backs up while the temporary message is still visible, will be included in the backup. Temporary messages will be cleared when a user restores a backup.

Images sent from the temporary chat will be removed from the application photos. But nevertheless, if automatic saving is activated in the smartphone gallery, the photos will remain on the different devices even when the day of deleting the message has passed.
