In another study published in the U.S. National Institutes of Health, lifestyle factors and abdominal fat accumulation were further analyzed.

The study looked at over 1,100 adults and found that for every 10g increase of soluble fiber, belly fat gain decreased by 3.7%.

“The increase in total dietary fiber and insoluble fiber were associated with a decrease in visceral fat regardless of the change in BMI,” the study said.

He continued: “Furthermore, the decrease in total dietary fiber was associated with a significant increase in VAT compared to those who increased total dietary fiber.”
