How old is The Child in The Mandalorian? Baby Yoda’s age has been revealed

The up-and-coming star of The Mandalorian isn’t losing her popularity as the second season takes place on Disney Plus.

The Child, better known by the nickname Baby Yoda, which was given to him by the Internet, continues to be a lovely companion for the bounty hunter of the same name.

Tending to cause damage and occasionally offer powerful aid in Mando’s missions, little is known about the creature because Star Wars creator George Lucas has always kept Yoda’s species a closely guarded secret.

However, it appears that the team behind The Mandalorian have plans to reveal more about the force-sensitive alien race, although they are doing so at an extremely slow pace.

One of the few things we know is Baby Yoda’s age, and she is older than one might expect.

How old is the child?

Contrary to his first name, The Child is actually 50 years old, as revealed by his size information in the first episode of The Mandalorian.

Why does The Child still look like a child?

As rival bounty hunter IG-11 points out in the same episode, some alien races age at a slower rate than others.

While a 50-year-old human is fully grown, the same is not true of Yoda’s species because they live much longer as evidenced by the few other members we have already met.

Yoda himself died at about 900 during his exile on Dagobah, while his fellow Jedi master Yaddle lived to be nearly 500 years old.

However, an interesting detail is that Master Yoda is claimed on the official Star Wars website to have trained Jedi for “over 800 years”, which suggests that members of his species may reach maturity by the age of 100.

If that’s the case, The Child will presumably begin to develop at a faster pace over the next 50 years of his life, meaning we could see him visibly age in future seasons of The Mandalorian.
