Honda Civic Tourer, world record in consumption: 13,498 km with an average consumption of 2.82 l / 100 km!

Good news from Honda, which tells us you can ride an endurance course with just 2.8 liters / 100km! The 13,498km course took Honda’s engineering team of Fergal McGrath and Julian Warren across 24 countries in Europe, including Romania. The two daredevils wanted to demonstrate the efficiency of the new Civic Tourer in normal traffic conditions, hence the extremely complex route they approached, which took 25 days to complete.

The two left on June 1 in the Belgian city of Aalst to return to the same place on June 25. The new Civic Tourer managed to cover an average of 1,500 km with a full tank of fuel, exceeding the declared fuel consumption by more than 25% (3.8 l / 100 in mixed mode). The team stopped just 9 times to refuel, at a total cost of 645 euros for 13,498 km.

The rules imposed by the Guinness Book of Records provided for the presence of both pilots throughout the journey, so the two engineers, colleagues at the Honda European Research Center for over 18 years, had to travel an average of 600 km a day. In order for the new record to be certified by Guinness World Records, the team had to collect evidence along the way (gps data, images, videos and independent statements from witnesses, etc.). To obtain precise data on the position of the car, the new Civic Tourer has been equipped with a GPS monitoring system supplied by the manufacturer TRACKER.

The inclusion of this optional equipment was also the only difference from a standard Civic Tourer. The car was inspected at the start and finish respectively to certify that no technical interventions had taken place, while all refueling on the route was carried out at public distributors and the tire pressure was the one recommended by the manufacturer.

The two engineers stressed that any customer can achieve similar performance to the new Civic Tourer 1.6 i-DTEC as long as they use economical driving techniques and choose a route that allows for an efficient driving style. Obviously, throughout this process, the two engineers were very careful to respect the speed limits imposed, but also not to carry unnecessary weights in the car.

The result recorded by the new Civic Tourer 1.6 i-DTEC is even more spectacular when you take into account the fact that it is not a mini or small class model, but a compact station wagon that benefits from the most spacious boot in the segment.
