The Philippines rushes to save thousands of people after Typhoon Vamco
The Philippine coast guard and disaster agencies rushed Saturday to save thousands of people in a northern province flooded by Typhoon Vamco, the country’s deadliest cyclone this year. Dozens of cities in the Cagayan region north of the capital Manila remain submerged, affecting thousands of families, some of whom have fled to rooftops to escape double-decker floods, officials said. The coast guard sent teams of rescue personnel, vehicles and rafts to Tuguegarao on Saturday, and will bring additional help from neighboring provinces, coast guard commander George Ursabia said.
