Ute Ohoven first commented on the death of her husband Mario on Instagram. The middle-class president was killed in a car accident over the weekend.
Ute Ohoven spoke in an Instagram post after the accidental death of her husband Mario Ohoven. “I thank everyone for your great concern. My pain and grief, which I share with my children, are endless,” the 74-year-old wrote. Ohoven is known as a special ambassador for UNESCO and founder of the You Foundation, which supports education for children in need. As company lady, she was and is a welcome guest at red carpets and charity events.
Her husband, the president of the Mittelstand, Mario Ohoven, died unexpectedly in a car accident last weekend. As a result, he lost control of his car on the A44 near Düsseldorf, which then collided with the central barrier.
In addition to his wife, Ohoven leaves his daughter Chiara and son Michael Ohoven. The latter recently greeted his father with touching words on Instagram. “My father, whom I love forever, my friend, for whom I am always there, my role model, of whom I am always proud. I still don’t want to believe it and I will always love you,” he wrote of a photo of the deceased 74-year-old.
Ohoven, born in Neuss, came from a family of traditional entrepreneurs and had been active in the investment field for around 30 years. The seasoned banker has received many honors over the years. In 2019 Ohoven was awarded the Medium-Sized Media Award for his life’s work. Ohoven is President of the BVMW, based in Berlin, since 1998 and, since 2002, President of the European umbrella organization of national SME associations CEA-PME in Brussels.
His death caused consternation, even in politics. “The news of the sudden accidental death of SME president Mario Ohoven shakes me a lot,” tweeted Federal Economy Minister Peter Altmaier. He had “greatly appreciated” the head of the association, who had “done great things for medium-sized enterprises”. CDU Secretary General Paul Ziemiak also expressed his condolences via Twitter. Ohoven was “a passionate fighter for the German middle class and economy”.
