As Yamaha did not use homologated valves for all four riders at the first Jerez GP, there are serious point deductions in the brand’s and team world championships.
The exclusive announcement by SPEEDWEEK.com has just been confirmed that an investigation is underway to verify whether Yamaha used non-homologated valves at the first Jerez GP in July. The points deductions announced were also confirmed by the MotoGP stewards. MotoGP technical director Danny Aldridge demonstrated today at the European Grand Prix in Valencia that the Yamaha Motor Company has not obtained permission from the MSMA Manufacturers Association for a technical change at the Jerez GP on July 19.
The Yamaha Motor Company loses 50 points in the constructors’ championship, double the points scored at Jerez.
To do this, the 20 points for the Team World Championship that Maverick Viñales won at the Spanish GP on July 19th will be deducted from the Monster Yamaha Factory Team.
And the Petronas SRT Yamaha team loses 37 points in the team championship, perhaps a miscalculation because Quartararo and Morbidelli received only 25 and 11 points, or 36.
No penalties were imposed in the riders’ championship because it can be assumed that the riders were unaware of Yamaha’s machinations.
The reason for the sanctions: Yamaha and the two penalized teams did not respect the protocol for technical changes.
Yamaha is giving up the lead in the constructors’ championship. Additionally, the Monster Yamaha Team drops from fourth to fifth place behind Red Bull-KTM in the Team World Championship.
