Health and the Rotary Club work to expand polio vaccination

The Secretary of State for Health and the international Rotary Clubs will work together to intensify the dissemination and awareness actions on the need for vaccination against polio in Paraná. The topic was addressed this Thursday (5) in videoconference with the governors of the clubs of Curitiba, Londrina, Maringá and Foz do Iguaçu. The goal is to improve vaccination coverage rates in the state.

“In recent years we have seen a decrease in the demand for vaccines, probably due to the growth of anti-vaccination campaigns and fakenews around the world. Therefore, it is very important that the state join forces to step up vaccination in all regions, ”said the Undersecretary of State for Health, Beto Preto.

“We know that in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the population is concerned about the search for the vaccine that will prevent infection with the new coronavirus, but we want to emphasize that there are diseases that can return to circulate due to lack of vaccination, as has been the case of measles, for example, “added the secretary.

He highlighted the Rotary Club International’s historic commitment to polio eradication. “Without a doubt, the reference for the fight and eradication of the disease is and remains essential. This is why the support of the institution is essential for this comparison we are making, to expand vaccination coverage “.

PRESENTATION – The coordinator of the Epidemiological Surveillance of the secretariat, Acácia Nasr, gave a presentation on the panorama of vaccination coverage against polio and multivaccination in the state, which is around 64%, and talked about the target of the areas in strengthening actions to that the target of the vaccine is reached, of at least 584 thousand children.

“We reaffirm Paraná’s commitment to keep the population free from polio by achieving high vaccination coverage and to reduce the risk of reintroducing the virus responsible for the disease,” the coordinator said.

It warns that the polio vaccine is the only safe way to protect children and is a right to health. “Parents should search for the nearest health unit to their home to update their children’s vaccination records,” he added.
