MADRID, October 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Secretary General of Digital Health, Information and Innovation of the Ministry of Health, Alfredo González Gómez, stressed that the Government “will make the scientific investment made profitable in an inclusive and collaborative way with the autonomous communities”, basically through the ‘Carlos III Health Institute, to achieve a “real” implementation of Precision Medicine in the National Health System (SNS).

To achieve this, he indicated that the plans designed and shared with all the actors involved will be implemented and framed in a medium and long-term precision medicine strategy. “The general objectives of the same are to ensure that health data, also with particular attention to genomic and molecular data, are used in a standardized, efficient and safe way in the SNS, and are analyzed in an integrated way together with other data relevant to health, in based on the needs of the population “, he explained Tuesday at the opening of the” 13th Annual Symposium of the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) “.

In his view, it is essential “to make Spain an attractive country for the leadership and execution of research and technological development projects, based on the implementation of precision medicine and on the integration and analysis of health data”.

González Gómez indicated that “the Ministry of Health is working with two perspectives: in the short term, in which we will have to live with the virus until the arrival of a vaccine or an effective treatment; and, at the same time, in the middle and in the long term, to carry out the transformations our National Health System needs, where research plays a fundamental role, providing it with sufficient resources to continue to protect the health of citizens in the best quality conditions “.

González Gómez underlined in this regard that “the General Secretariat for Digital Health, Information and Innovation has assumed, in this sense, competences on key aspects of public health policies such as: those relating to innovation in the health system and in industry; the digitalization of the SNS, the management of health information and innovation projects in the health field “. The General Secretariat also deals with the management of European funds deriving from the Next Generation EU initiative, approved by the European Council last July.

The conference, which brings together high-level international experts, focuses on one of the three main areas of application of research at IBEC, medicine of the future and precision.

The Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) is a research center that carries out interdisciplinary work of excellence on the frontier of engineering and life sciences in order to generate new knowledge by integrating fields such as nanomedicine, biophysics, biotechnology, engineering and applications of information technology in the field of health.
