Game Consoles – Customers sitting at home due to the corona pandemic are snatching the Switch game console from Nintendo. On Thursday, the Japanese entertainment group significantly wronged its forecast for the device’s sales.
Sales of 24 million units are expected for the current year (at the end of March), five million more than previously assumed. The group known for the “Super Mario” game also raised its forecast for the annual result by half to 450 billion yen (3.9 billion Swiss francs).
From April to September – when there were restrictions on public life in many countries due to the crown pandemic – operating profit tripled to 291 billion yen (2.5 billion Swiss francs), Nintendo announced.
The Kyoto-based company has been reluctant to raise its switch sales forecast. But renewed lockdowns in many countries are likely to keep demand high for a longer period of time, the company said. Nintendo sold 12.5 million Switch devices in the first half of the year. The game console has been on the market for four years.
