Starting in June 2021, the free unlimited storage of the Google Photos service will be linked to that of Gmail. Once you have exceeded the limit, you will have to pay.

The measure aims to continue to meet the continuing demand for storage.

From that date, any files that users upload to their Google accounts will be counted as part of the free 15G that any Gmail account entitles to, the Sputnik website reported.

The measure will not be retroactive, so any content uploaded before June 2021 will not count as part of that 15G and will continue to be available through accounts forever.

Google bases its decision on the need to continue to meet “the pace of growing storage demand”. There is only an exception. Those who own a Google Pixel mobile phone (models 1 to 5), will be able to continue uploading files in High quality from their terminal without having to use the computer within the 15 GB quota, because from Google Pixel 3 files cannot be Original quality without occupying the quota.

Other changes will also affect documents uploaded with Google Drive, where the content of inactive accounts It will be canceled automatically.

End of a stage

The option of being able to store unlimited files in the cloud with Google+ was completed in 2015, when Google began providing the ability to compress photos and videos uploaded using the High Quality option, because up until that point the Original Quality plan affected the space of 15GB.

As a result, Google Photos allowed image compression without compromising image quality (maximum resolution of 16 MG for photos and 1080p for videos). The company claims that more than 28 billion of photos and videos to the service, a product of which both users of the Android and iOS operating systems take care of their management.
