With God of War Ragnarök, Sony continues the streak of success once again, this time on PS5. But is the game really exclusive to the next generation console?
God of War Ragnarök will certainly be one of Sony’s first exclusive big hits on Sony’s PlayStation 5, but it’s still unclear whether the game will really be reserved only for the next generation console. In the transition period from one console generation to the next, developers often rely on cross-gen titles, which means they highlight their games for the previous and the new console. Will it be the same with God of War Ragnarök?
This is still unclear, although PlayStation boss Jim Ryan has now commented on this – or not. Ryan’s latest statement can be interpreted in one direction or another, so even PS4 players still hope they don’t necessarily have to jump straight to PS5 in order to enjoy the next offshoot series.
In conversation with the Telegraph Asked about the PS5 exclusivity of the new version of Sony Santa Monica, Jim Ryan said: “I’m sorry, I have nothing to say about it today.” So it doesn’t seem at all certain that God of War Ragnarök will really only appear for PS5 or not for PS4 as well.
While PS4 gamers may be optimistic for the moment, this has a rather negative note for early PS5 buyers: cross-gen titles need to be optimized for both platforms, so they may not be harnessing the full power of PS5 because the cuts need to be made for the PS4. So the topic certainly remains interesting to watch.
The issue of PS5 exclusivity has emerged, among other things, because Horizon: Forbidden West appears for both consoles. At the time of the announcement, it was assumed that the game would only be available for PS5.
