Orlando City made it through the MLS Eastern Conference semifinals for the first time.

Nani’s Orlando City made history this Saturday when they first qualified in the semifinals of the MLS Eastern Conference, but only after a crazy and dramatic penalty (6-5) against New York City FC.

After the 1-1 regular time, with Nani scoring Orlando’s goal, no one would have said what would come to penalties. The goalkeeper was sent off at the request of the VAR after defending a penalty – he received a second yellow card – and, having no more substitutions, it was the player on the field, Rodrigo Schlegel, who took the place.

And it was Schlegel who became the hero of the match, defending a penalty and allowing Benji Michel to score the winning penalty.

It is also curious that Nani missed the 11-meter finish, after scoring Orlando’s goal in regulation time.
