Gigabyte has announced an eGPU case that houses an Aorus RTX 3080 Waterforce. This should appear under the Aorus RTX 3080 Gaming Box name and only change the graphics card and power supply from the previous generation. In addition, a second version based on the RTX 3090 would be planned.
Nvidia’s Geforce RTX 3080 is still hardly available. However, Gigabyte has now announced an eGPU bay that will house that graphics card. The Gigabyte Aorus RTX 3080 Gaming Box is designed to combine an RTX 3080 with adequate power and thus allow operation on a notebook, for example.
Only changes to the graphics card and power supply
Gigabyte installs the Aorus RTX 3080 Waterforce inside the Aorus RTX 3080 Gaming Box, with cooling via a 240mm radiator. An unspecified model with 550 watts is used as the power supply; the previous device based on the RTX 2080 Ti had 450 watts. Furthermore, the graphics connections have obviously been adapted to the new generation of amplifiers

There don’t seem to be any further changes compared to the older generation. The housing is again 140 x 173 x 300mm in size (W x H x D) and the graphics card is still connected via a Thunderbolt connection and controlled accordingly by four PCI-E 3.0 lanes. Additional connections are also integrated: in addition to graphical connections, there are still three USB ports and a LAN connection. Nothing has changed from its predecessor.

The Gigabyte Aorus RTX 3080 Gaming Box is not yet listed in the PCGH price comparison, so it is not yet available in this country. The company has not yet posted any information on a release date or price. There is also no further information on a second model based on the RTX 3090, which should be planned.
