HAMBURG, Nov 9 (Reuters) – H5N8 avian flu has been confirmed at another poultry farm in northern Germany, German authorities said Monday.
The case was found on a small chicken farm in the Kreis Segeberg area of the northern state of Schweswig-Holstein, the Segeberg local government authority said in a statement.
The farm’s 36 chickens have been ordered to be slaughtered and poultry from neighboring farms will not be allowed outside, the authority said.
A number of outbreaks of the disease have been reported in Europe in the past few weeks. Wild birds are believed to be spreading the disease.
Avian influenza type H5N8 was found on another farm in Schleswig-Holstein on 5 November.
The Netherlands, Europe’s largest exporter of chicken meat and eggs, has ordered the culling of more than 200,000 chickens after bird flu was found on several farms since late October.
Britain has ordered the culling of 13,000 birds on a farm in northwest England after identifying cases there.
