The first women’s soccer league, with 24 teams in attendance, was launched in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday and its competitions are held in just three cities and include players aged 17 and over.

Each team includes 16 players, eight of whom participate on the pitch, while each team participating in the championship has the right to register a maximum of 25 players on the lists.

The first season of the Women’s League, funded by the Saudi Sports for All Federation, was launched in the cities of Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, and will be in the group system, meaning each region that forms a group, and the first groups will qualify for the second. league with a knockout system, provided that the final match will be determined at a later date. During the tournament cup, a prize of 500,000 Saudi riyals (approximately $ 135,000) will be awarded.

The first day saw eight games split equally between Riyadh and Jeddah.

The Saudi Sports for All Federation, led by Prince Khaled bin Al-Walid, has chosen Jordanian administrative and technical teams to direct the matches, while attracting women’s refereeing teams from Lebanon.

Last February, the federation launched a community-wide women’s soccer tournament in Riyadh alone.

The Federation considered that the launch of a women’s football championship at the Saudi Arabian level aims to improve the practice of sports activities by providing the opportunity and supporting the players and coaches to improve their skills.
