Author reveals shocking stories from “Game of Thrones” set
“Game of Thrones” is still one of the most loved and most importantly most successful series of all, even though the fantasy saga ended brilliantly last year. Meanwhile, the producers are already working on a series of prequels titled “House of the Dragon”. The stories are far from over since the first broadcast in 2011. This is demonstrated not least in the book “Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon”, which has just been published by journalist and author James Hibberd.
The special feature: Hibberd accompanied the stars of “Game Of Thrones” during filming on the set and interviewed the actors and staff who are largely responsible for the worldwide success (59 Emmys, 44 million viewers per episode in the United States alone ). In doing so, they revealed what it really was like behind the scenes. Lead actress Emilia Clarke, better known as the dragon queen Daenerys Targaryen, was particularly shocking with a dramatic experience.

As the author reports according to the website “Fansided”, Emilia Clarke would have feared for her life on the set of the series. The reason: After the first season, he suffered a brain hemorrhage and had to undergo emergency surgery as soon as possible. The danger was not over, however, because the 34-year-old could start bleeding again at any time. In the interview, the actress tells about her aneurysm: “When we were in the desert at 32 degrees Celsius, the whole crew was constantly afraid that I was going to have another brain hemorrhage. I kept asking myself: Should I die? Will this happen on set?”
By the way: Clarke had repeatedly struggled with migraines as a teenager, but she didn’t take it seriously, but rather dismissed it as an expression of her stress. Even then, it collapsed again and again. Today he says the first physical impairments were warning signs.
Probably the most beautiful love story in “Game of Thrones”
Most people know Kit Harington better than Jon Snow. In a total of 62 episodes he played the role of Eddard Stark’s son. In 2012, in particular, the British actor’s heart beat faster on the set. Because there he met and fell in love with his serial colleague Rose Leslie. When he found out she was getting the role of Ygritte, he quickly googled her. They first met at the dress rehearsal: “I was blown away immediately. Your interpretation of the character was just brilliant.”
They also played a couple in the series – how practical it is. In 2017, the two got engaged in real life. In late 2018, megastars finally said the romantic word yes. Looking back, Harington says a season 3 scene was “the highlight”. Because there he was finally allowed to kiss his future wife. “I didn’t want anyone to call cut,” the series star said.
The biggest provocations during the shoot
From the second “GoT” season, Gwendoline Christie was there until the series finale. She put herself in front of the camera as the combative Brienne of Tarth and had to establish herself again and again during the shoot, because especially his colleague Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is said to have made his entry difficult, according to James Hibberd.
Christie recounts the first meeting in the mask with the Danish actor: “He looked down on me like I was an alien or a bunch of shit. Then he said, Oh, is that you?” After that, Christie is said to have not felt well. But they later became friends. Fortunately, because they had to be together in front of the camera in 42 episodes.
