Galaxy Z with surround screen, impressive design

[ad_1]

Leaked documentation from LetsGoDigital confirms that Samsung filed a patent last July focusing on a new Galaxy Z that keep the visualization concept flexible we have seen in that series, but with a totally new execution and truly amazing.

As you can see in the conceptual design accompanying this article, that new Galaxy Z would not have a flexible and foldable screen in a specific area, but it would come with a wraparound screen that would extend from the front to the rear terminal. It would be a full-screen smartphone in the strictest sense of the word.

I’m sure more than one of our readers will have had a sense of “déjà vu”. Don’t worry, it’s normal, what came to your mind was the prototype of the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha, a terminal that part of that same idea, and which has a screen that completely surrounds the terminal, covering both the front and the back.

The idea is the same, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any differences. In the case of the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha, we have a gap in the back that cuts through the screen, where camera and flash settings are integrated. However, the Galaxy Z with surround screen has no space reserved for cameras, these they are integrated inside through a sliding design that we can see perfectly detailed in the attached video.

Galaxy Z

Integrating a wraparound screen with a sliding design of this type seems to me rather complex, the truth, so much so that I do not think Samsung will be able to shape a terminal like this in the short or medium term, not because it does not have the necessary means to do so, but because the cost it would have (for materials and workmanship) would end up being enormous. Keep in mind that Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha would come with an approximate price of 2,500 euros, at best, and which in the end did not even have an official launch due to its high selling price, and also the doubts it raised in terms of useful life and durability.

Does a Galaxy Z with a wraparound screen make sense?

I have no doubt that it is. It is a smartphone that gradually manages to innovate in a very banal market began to come out of its lethargy and its stagnation thanks to the arrival of flexible smartphones, although at the same time I also believe that the market is not ready for a terminal of this type, and that it would not be viable from an economic point of view.

As I told you before, the production costs of a smartphone like the Galaxy Z with a surround screen it should be very tall, even more than those of a traditional flexible smartphone like the Galaxy Z Fold 2. This, together with other significant costs, such as those related to the sliding system, and those of R&D to give shape to a design with a structure that is sufficiently reliable to guarantee a reasonable life cycle, It could end up pushing the selling price to unacceptable levels.

We may end up seeing projects like this at some point, but let’s be clear there are still many years before they “democratize” smartphone with the same or similar focus as the Galaxy Z with a wraparound screen.

Personally, I have to admit that I really like this design and I find it quite useful, although at the same time it scares me because of its fragility. And to you, Do you like this conceptual design?
