And a five-year study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition in 2010 found that people who drank 100 percent fruit juice tended to be less fat, less likely to be obese, and carry a lot of visceral fat.

In a study published in Plos One, consumption of grapefruit juice was investigated which was shown to reduce weight gain in mice.

“Data from a well-controlled animal study indicates that grapefruit juice contains more than one health-promoting nutrient and requires further studies on the effects of grapefruit juice in the context of obesity or the Western diet,” he explains.

He continued: “It can also stop hunger cravings later in the day, which leads to overeating.”

Nutritionist Christine Bailey added: “Grapefruit is rich in water and soluble fiber and can help reduce insulin levels, which helps prevent fat build-up in the body.”
