From 2021: Millions of Android smartphones will have problems, you need to know now

Android devices are among the most popular smartphones on the market. However, it’s not just the new flagship models from Samsung and Co. that are in the hands of mobile phone users. Most Android smartphones are old and, above all, cheap devices that don’t work with the latest version of the operating system. In the next year, many of these devices and therefore their users may have a problem.

Because, as announced by Lets Encrypt certificate authority managers, the root certificate will be changed next year. Root certificates are used by websites to establish a secure connection with browsers. If a browser goes to a page, it asks for security certificates. If no one is available or not approved, the connection is dropped to protect the user from outside interference.

The switching process is expected to start on January 11 and will likely be completed by September 1 at the latest.
