“Freshly toasted every day” – that’s why Stefan Raab’s new show is a disappointment – TV

In the opening credits, thanks to the well-known voice of Manfred Winkens, you think you are back in the old days of “TV Total”. By the end of the credits, however, you notice all too clearly that those days are over.

“Freshly roasted every day”, Stefan Raab’s (54) new late night show, doesn’t start late at night – but on Monday at 8:15 pm on the RTL streaming service “TVNow”. It wasn’t the only thing that hooked the cult presenter’s late night return.

We saw the 41-minute first edition ahead of time and sadly can’t recommend turning it on. Because even if the concept (change moderate hosts, change “roasters” criticize them in parallel) is fun, at least innovative in this country and sounds like great potential – the first version is above all one thing: it can be expanded.

This could also be due to the inventor: Raab himself remains alone behind the camera. Already in the opening credits it says: “Stefan Raab is really in the right direction and eats chips – and hopes that Ralf Moeller has a lot more text than with Gladiator”.

This is already one of the best gags on the show – and at the same time it sets the tone. Because the first series of “Daily Freshly Roasted”, which now runs for four weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays, occasionally shines with a degree of self-irony that you hardly expected.

The best example: “Whenever someone else can moderate here. This means: I can come back after my next lift. “

The problem: ALL gags that don’t refer to Moeller himself are old or boring. Worst example: “The US defeated the virus. Donald Trump was excluded. “This doesn’t even make the thigh vibrate.

As expected, Moeller’s moderation skills are also very limited. He tries so helplessly to simulate the meaning in his sentences through arbitrary pauses in conversation that even his opponent apparently took pity.

Because “heute show” comedian Olaf Schubert (53) does his job – to really target Moeller – even less than Moeller’s late-night host.

From time to time he makes fun of Moeller, but hardly his restraint. The German teacher would say: missing topic.

Films recorded in the categories “Blind Date Concert” (a band that spontaneously got together in a music shop performs with reggae singer Gentleman) and “Burdeckipedia” (Evelyn Burdecki stupidly explains “Sankt Martin”) seem already worn out.

In the end, Schubert would therefore have to settle for points again with Moeller. “I have to muster, because he’s physically superior to me,” tries here to give another helpless explanation for his reluctance to appear on the show earlier. After all, he must have noticed it himself. Insight is the first path to improvement.

However: Schubert gives Moeller 12 points out of 30. Neither the two protagonists nor the show itself with its first edition deserve.

Moeller’s worst testimony, however: “I would say it was somehow half the size.”

And as is well known, nobody wants to be in show business.
