“Freshly toasted every day” – New Late Night by Stefan Raab: Torment the star!

[ad_1]

It would be pretty insignificant if you counted how many mistakes are already hidden in the title of »Daily Freshly Roasted«, the new late night format devised by Stefan Raab for TVNow – well, there are three: the show won’t come every day, only Monday is Wednesday. The gags are not fresh, but rather from mildly peeled mold to long-stored Twitter mediocrity: “The US has defeated the ugly virus – Donald Trump has been eliminated.” And no one here is roasted or roasted, grilled with nasty, well-set hints: Ralf Möller and Olaf Schubert tend to wear you down in the opening sequence with the low cooking method – unfortunately, nothing sizzles or hisses here.

The two-person constellation of the show follows the classic sandcastle principle: one person shovels a fragile piece of art together with his little shovel, the other person slaps right in the middle. So: A shifting, non-specialist celebrity tries to present a traditional late night show with stand-ups, a few small formats, and a conversation element per episode. A second celebrity, also in constant flux, watches these efforts behind the stage and ridicules the novice moderator.

With Ralf Möller as first presenter, the show turns into a less ambitious “taboo” in the first few minutes: all the obvious things that immediately come to mind about the solid-voiced actor are discussed directly in the introductory film: his role in “The Gladiator “Cucumber movie” Hai-Alarm auf Mallorca “, his friendship with Arnold Schwarzenegger. These three typical hand motions are rehearsed multiple times over the course of the 40-minute broadcast, and then all the obvious things that happen to Arnold Schwarzenegger in ten seconds, it’s a moderately funny polonaise of the obvious.

He jokes like a constantly loosened fish hand

Some stupidity on the part of the inexperienced moderator is part of the concept of “Freshly Roasted Daily”, but that can go completely wrong if this clumsiness is not funny but simply embarrassing. Möller has no sense of speed and timing, even his silly jokes are recited slowly. “Stop the count – I’ll call him soon when the tax office calculates my taxes,” says Möller. And Schubert adds in his behind-the-scenes roastkuff: “But first you need to make money.” They are jokes, as if someone is constantly shaking your hand, and this is the second danger of this format: if at best only moderately good jokes are only moderately good ridiculous maneuvers to follow, boredom increases.

For the first time, there is laughter in despair when people in epidemic clothing drag a monstrously oversized cotton ball to perform a crown test in Möller. Yes, every line with “Corona the Barbarian” is also made. By the way, Ralf Möller is friends with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Two sizes allow you to breathe deeply in the middle. Lutz van der Horst puts together a spontaneous band in a music shop, which then performs alongside a gentleman who, conveniently and as is customary late at night, only has a new album and is therefore compliant.

Doubts remain about Evelyn-Burdecki’s authenticity

The »Burdeckipedia« format, in which Evelyn Burdecki, winner of »I’m a star, get me out of here«, paraphrases well-known terms in her famous neo-Ingridsteeger Schnuckdoofi way, does less well. At first, she is asked in a similar setting who Sankt Martin was, and the show suddenly feels much older. On the one hand, nothing seems farther than the jungle camp of 2019, on the other hand there are now serious doubts about the authenticity of Burdecki’s long-professionalized Dusselweibchen role. Saint Martin is “a rider and on horses” and has “a spatula with him,” says Burdecki, it’s hard to buy from her.

In the closing speech, Schubert makes a few attempts at burin and lets Möller complete the tweets about himself: “I don’t know, but I find Ralf Möller somewhat likeable”, is an original quote. And Schubert’s idea of Roast: “It can be said that not everything on the Internet is right.” At the end of the day, he lines up Möller with equally successful US exports Thermomix, Wirecard, and Cuckoo Clock, pissing doesn’t get any thinner. Where are the much-mentioned roasted flavors when you really need them?
