Franco Morbidelli takes Yamaha to pole / MotoGP SPEEDWEEK.COM

Joan Mir (Suzuki) and Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) lead the 2020 MotoGP World Championship, but on Sunday they will only face the second Valencia GP from positions 12 and 11. Others shone in the second quarter.

Brad Binder (KTM) and Fabio Quartararo entered Q2 as first and second in qualifying 1 at Circuit Ricardo Tormo, where starting positions 1 to 12 will be reached.

Just before the start of Q2 it was raining again, with Yamaha rider Quartararo setting the first remarkable time of 1: 30.983 min.

Midway through the 15-minute session, Miguel Oliveira took the lead with 1: 30.839 minutes and was then taken by surprise by his fellow KTM Binder. Pol Espargaro, who was on pole position in the first Valencia GP last Sunday, was twelfth.

Three minutes from the end, Pol Espargaro catapulted into second place, with three KTM riders at the top!

The joy didn’t last long, then Vinales took first place with his Yamaha M1 and was overtaken shortly after by Ducati rider Jack Miller.

With 60 seconds left, Franco Morbidelli (Petronas Yamaha) drove 1: 30.191 minutes, which was enough for pole position! The Italian was 0.096 seconds ahead of Miller, Takaaki Nakagami led the best Honda to third place.

The second row of the grid is made up of Johann Zarco, the best KTM driver Pol Espargaro and Vinales.

World Championship leader Joan Mir (Suzuki) finished last in this session and is 12th on the grid on Sunday (starting at 2pm). The runner-up of the Quartararo World Championship only finished eleventh.

Third in the World Cup Alex Rins is 14th on the grid, Valentino Rossi 16, Andrea Dovizioso 17 and Stefan Bradl 18. In Q1 everyone missed the jump to Q2.
