EXCLUSIVE: Tron (TRX) for the update on the project atlas on September 28th

September 28thth, TRON is revealing more details about Project Atlas, a new product that will open the future to content distribution, linking the BitTorrent peer-to-peer network and its 100 million monthly active users to the TRON blockchain network. Using a series of BitTorrent protocol extensions, a custom token and an in-client token economy to address existing limits, the company aims to open a new boundless economy in which users can exchange value for IT resources on a global scale.

Since its creation, the BitTorrent protocol had a system of incentives embedded in its main processes. BitTorrent users can choose to upload data for users who upload them faster. Prior to the acquisition by TRON in July 2018, the BitTorrent research and development team was already studying ways to add blockchain-based incentives to the BitTorrent protocol.

Justin Sun, founder and CEO of TRON, said this about Project Atlas:

Project Atlas is the basis for a new way of distributing content. To start, the product will feature faster downloads, more seeds, no mining and compatibility with previous versions. It is adapted to the world in which we live today: mobile, connected and transparent. We aim to finally empower all content creators and their communities by eliminating brokers and allowing content creators to distribute them directly to users.

Incentives on BitTorrent

Users will be able to provide tokens to uploaders in exchange for faster download speeds. BitTorrent peers will be able to offer tokens to encourage other users to run clients on faster networks and seed torrents for longer periods, leading to increased swarm longevity and faster download speeds for all swarm participants .

Users can earn tokens to continue uploading files after completing the download. Storage and bandwidth will be infused into the torrent ecosystem. With the ability to earn tokens, the uploaders have a reason to seed the files longer and dedicate more space to bandwidth and storage to ensure that the swarms are faster and last longer.

Participating users will exchange tokens with each other based on the resources provided, not the mining activities. The atlas of the project does not involve mining. Extraction is the process that some cryptocurrencies, e.g. Bitcoin, use to protect the shopping history through a system called "test of work". Other cryptocurrencies, such as TRON (TRX), do not use work trials and do not require mining operations. Tron does not need or desire to extract users' computers.

Tron is implementing the features of Project Atlas as a set of protocol extensions compatible with previous versions. This means that existing clients will continue to function flawlessly as new clients and features are introduced. Users will be able to continue using their existing version; earning or spending tokens will not be mandatory and users will still be able to download and seed the new generation of users.

Tron's mission

Tron's mission is to make the BitTorrent protocol faster and easier to use anywhere. Because their changes are compatible with previous versions, you can create solutions for one platform at a time. Tron plans to implement this exciting evolution for the entire product range and across all platforms: desktop and mobile. The BitTorrent protocol is agnostic, any type of file will be available. This will allow Tron to scale the global distribution of any type of file in a shorter amount of time.

Justin Knoll, Project Atlas Lead, added that:

Project Atlas is an evolution of torrent technology, not a revolution. With TRON's blockchain experience, our growing seven-person development team plans to send the first features in the coming months.

BitTorrent is an open protocol and Project Atlas is expected to remain open to developers. The Tron team will release the details of the implementation and encourage other torrent customers to follow their example and improve the ecosystem for everyone. BitTorrent has always offered free versions of their popular BitTorrent protocol clients and they are not going to change it. Their products will remain available for free.

TRON and BitTorrent will share more information on Project Atlas in the coming days and weeks, starting September 28th at 19:00 (PST) during a live streaming TRON available on social media. (https://twitter.com/Tronfoundation)

About TRON

Founded in September 2017 by Justin Sun, the company achieved a number of achievements, including the launch of Mainnet in May 2018, the independence of the network in June 2018 and the launch of the TRON Virtual Machine in the. August 2018. July 2018 also marked the acquisition of BitTorrent, a pioneer in decentralized services.

TRON is the world's largest decentralized network and new projects such as Project Atlas will connect BitTorrent to the world of Blockchain, enabling faster downloads and torrent durations, creating a tokenised ecosystem that benefits 100M + users.

Justin Sun has previously worked at Ripple as Chief Representative & Advisor and founded Peiwo in 2013, one of the largest live streaming applications in China. His educational background includes the University of Pennsylvania, the Peking University and the University of Hupan (created by Jack Ma, President of the Alibaba Group).

TRON is connecting thousands of developers around the world through its consumer-centric ecosystem based on blockchain, cryptocurrency, dApps and peer-to-peer file sharing product leaders; respectively TRON, Peiwo, BitTorrent and μTorrent.

The company consists of over 300 employees with offices in Beijing, San Francisco and Singapore. As the TRON continues to expand rapidly, it is looking for more people with a passion for decentralization to join an ambitious team.

TRX is also listed on the main exchanges of cryptocurrencies including Binance, Bittrex, Bitfinex, BitMEX, Bitbay and much more.
