- Everything is still open in Group F of the Europa League: Napoli, Real Sociedad and Alkmaar still have the chance to progress.
- Swiss Dan Ndoye scored his second goal in the Europa League, but his club Nice had yet to surrender.
- Yvon Mvogo (PSV) keeps his box clean, Haris Seferovic (Benfica) and Cedric Itten (Glasgow Rangers) come in for partial appearances.
- YB has no chance at AS Roma, but remains in the running for a spot in the knockout stage.
Group F: 3 teams are still fighting for first and second place
Real Sociedad were unable to take advantage of the good starting position and only played 2-2 at home against already eliminated Rijeka. On the last day of the match, the Basques will have to play away against Napoli. One point is enough for the leader in one week to qualify for the knockout stage.
Third-placed Alkmaar also have a chance to move forward after a 1-1 draw against Napoli. If the Dutch win in Rijeka next Thursday, they will winter in Europe.
Group C: Ndoye scores, but loses to Nice
Nice will certainly not winter in Europe. The French south had to admit defeat at home with 2: 3 Bayer Leverkusen. Nice draw twice, Swiss Dan Ndoye scored 2-2. But Julian Baumgartlinger led the “Werkself” to victory in the 51st minute.
In addition to Leverkusen, Slavia Prague also move on to the next round. The Czechs beat back Be’er Scheva 3-0.
Group D: Benfica and Rangers continue
In an open exchange of blows, the Glasgow Rangers held the best part in the duel with Standard Liege to themselves. Coach Steven Gerrard’s team has twice made up for the deficit against the Belgians. Scott Arfield was responsible for the 3-2 winning goal after just over an hour. For the Swiss forward Cedric Itten it took only a short deployment.
Haris Seferovic remained on the field for a while. The 28-year-old entered the field after 60 minutes in Benfica Lisbon’s undisputed 4-0 win against Lech Poznan. Both Rangers and Benfica have been announced as round of 32.
Group B: Arsenal keep the white jersey
5 games, 15 points: the Gunners in the Europa League – unlike the Premier League – run like clockwork. Arsenal easily won 4-1 against Rapid Vienna in front of 2,000 spectators in London. It was the first match to an audience in England in over 8 months. Granit Xhaka was not on the hosts’ menu.
The Austrians return to 3rd place at the expense of Molde (3-1 victory over Dundalk). In a week there will be a decisive direct duel between Rapid and Molde in Vienna.
Group E: Granada lost without consequences
In Group E’s biggest match, PSV Eindhoven and Swiss goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo won 1-0 at Leader Granada. The Dutchman secured qualification for the knockout stage. This is also because PAOK Saloniki were defeated in the parallel match Omonia Nicosia and therefore have no chance of reaching second place.
