Ethereum and EOS Blockchain used by Associated Press to publish US presidential election results

The American non-profit news agency Associated Press (AP) has published the results of the US presidential election on the blockchain. As illustrated in the Associated Press Elections API, election results are logged on both files Ethereum and EOS blockchains respectively.

News of the possibility of the Associated Press publishing the results of the US presidential election involving key contenders including incumbent President and Republican Party candidate Donald Trump and Democratic presidential candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden erupted in October. .

The initiative is in partnership with Everipedia, a blockchain-based encyclopedia. The Associated Press uses Everipedia’s Oracle software to publish US election contests. The voting data will be cryptographically signed and published on the blockchain, to bring the data in and out of the blockchain to communicate securely between different parties in a reliable way.

The dynamics of reporting are such that once the results data are verified as authentic, they are then published on the Ethereum and EOS blockchains, also available on the Everipedia site.

At the time of writing, the Associated Press has called and registered 46 of the 52 states that make up the United States. Of these appeals, 23 states are for Trump while 23 states have been called for Biden so far.

Blockchain technology used in elections

Governments around the world are now starting to see the potential of blockchain technology in conducting free and fair elections. In August, the Indian Election Commission proposed using blockchain technology as a solution to bring transparency to remote voting in a discussion involving voting issues.

A similar move was also made in the United States. Notably, in the Ohio House of Representatives, Democratic lawmakers have proposed a new blockchain-based voting system as part of their bill revising the electoral law. The system will be used to count and track the votes of military personnel stationed outside the United States and registered to vote in Ohio.
