The Microsoft Surface line of tablets and laptops has built a solid user base. The company is continually pushing software updates for those devices and also wants to clarify with its users about this support. Microsoft has released a list with service end dates for the entire line. The list carries the Surface RT from 2012 and also includes the Surface Laptop Go released last month.

This is a list that basically sets the “End of Support” dates for Surface devices. Based on the list below, we can see that most devices receive stable software updates for four years. However, there are some exceptions that receive five years of support. It’s really impressive when we look at the Surface Pro 3 which has seven years of support. This is one of the main benefits of getting a device from a company that controls both the hardware and the software running.

According to the American giant, the list was published after user requests. The company wants to help its users know when they can get a new device if certain updates are an important part of their use. Also, the list comes “to help plan and manage hardware and software deployments.”

Not quite the end of Surface devices

The end of service dates reveal when Microsoft will stop shipping driver and firmware updates for the listed device. However, this list doesn’t really mean the end of the line for these devices. The company will continue to send future updates to the Windows operating system, as well as important security patches for those devices. In addition to the new “End of Services” list, Microsoft also announced that the Windows update will take a little longer to arrive. It is part of a new strategy. We will know more in the coming weeks.
