Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane believes Eden Hazard will come back stronger after his latest injury.
Zinedine Zidane admitted that Eden Hazard is having a “difficult time” but insists that Real Madrid will do everything possible to help sign the record.
The Belgian international has been suffering from ankle and leg problems since joining Spanish giants Chelsea nearly 18 months ago.
He only started 14 games in La Liga last season, playing a minor role when Madrid won the title in their first season at the club.
He continued to struggle during this period and sustained a rectus femoris injury in his right thigh in his third league game against Alaves on Saturday.
No deadline has been set for his return, but he did was not named in the Madrid squad for Tuesday’s Champions League away match at Shakhtar Donetsk.
Zidane said it is Madrid’s responsibility to look after the 29-year-old and the Frenchman hopes the striker can come back stronger than before.
Asked at a press conference if Hazard could suffer a psychological impact after yet another injury, Zidane replied: “No. Sometimes injuries happen and we have to put up with it. He’s strong, I have no doubts.
“He’s having a hard time lately. We’ll help him get better soon.
“It is a complicated situation for Eden. He has never been injured in his career and now has more misfortunes. He will certainly come back stronger. We can’t wait to see him again with us.”
Despite a largely indifferent Champions League campaign so far, which has seen them win only two of four Group B games, Real Madrid can clinch an eighth place for the 24th time with victory over Shakhtar.
Luis Castro’s side have failed to win any of their three games since beating Madrid on Matchday 1, but Zidane is preparing his players for what he calls the most important match of the group.
“It’s up to us to move on,” he said. “Tomorrow is another final, there are two left. It is certainly the most important match because it can take us to another phase.”
Since scoring their third goal in a 3-2 win over Real Madrid, Shakhtar have failed to score in any of their last 23 shots in the competition.
However, Los Blancos defender Nacho Fernandez still expects a challenging match in Kiev.
“We have to try to be much more careful,” he said. “They are a very fast, very dynamic team. We will try to move forward in the standings and be careful in defense.”
