Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn wants to fight in Ireland for Katie Taylor in order to complete a career ambition for his boxer.
Eddie Hearn hopes to organize a fight in Ireland for unified lightweight champion Katie Taylor.
The undisputed division champion has fought in both the US and UK throughout her professional career.
He has not yet fought in Ireland as a professional, and the twin obstacles of Covid-19 and the memory of the 2016 attack on the Regency Hotel have created a seemingly insurmountable amount of obstacles to staging a great fight.
However, speaking to Irish media group RTE about their Game On program, the Matchroom promoter made it clear that he’d like to do a show with Taylor.

“Boxing in Ireland has had some great nights over the years. I remember being on Mill Street in Cork for Chris Eubank vs. Steve Collins 1,” he said.
“The atmosphere was incredible. We were lucky enough to have so many beautiful nights in Belfast too. We are often asked the question about coming to Ireland and we know it has its problems.
“To be honest with you, when we started and Katie was boxing all the big shows in England and then we went to America, she became a bit of a global star.”
Hearn explained that Taylor is eager to fight in her home country before retiring.
He said: “You definitely have the aspiration to fight in Ireland. It’s something we would like to do and something we should do. We shouldn’t close the door on that.
“I just feel that right now there are offers to Katie to box all over the world, but I know at some point in her career that will be very important to her.”
