Earlier this month, DXOMARK analyzed the audio performance of the Apple iPhone 12. The smartphone scored 73 points, two points higher than last year. iPhone 11 Pro Max (71 points) achieved, but one point less than the iPhone XS Max (74 points). The company has now released the camera analysis of this device.
The iPhone 12 is in 13th place with 122 points in DXOMARK. The device is not just behind the iPhone 12 Pro Max (130 points) and then the iPhone 12 Pro (128 points) but it also scored fewer points than the iPhone 11 Pro Max (120 points).
Of the four new 5G smartphones launched by Apple in 2020, the iPhone 12 can be considered the iPhone for most users. This model has a dual camera setup which consists of a 12MP main sensor with 1.4 µm pixels, f / 1.6 lens, OIS and PDAF. The secondary unit equipped with an f / 2.4 lens has a 12MP 1 / 3.6-inch sensor.

This camera setup is capable of recording 4K video at 24/30/60 fps, 1080p video at 30/60/120/240 fps, Dolby Vision HDR video (up to 30 fps). Finally, it supports EIS and is paired with a dual LED flash.
Speaking of performance, the iPhone 12 scores 132 points for the camera (photo), 112 points for videos and only 41 points for the zoom capability, as it doesn’t have a telephoto lens.
In short, according to DXOMARK, the iPhone 12’s cameras perform well overall, but lag behind the flagships of Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO and even Apple’s next-generation iPhones. However, its video performance is much better than most smartphones. In fact, it ranks third in this department with the iPhone 12 Pro.
The phone’s camera system offers accurate and consistent autofocus, exposure and color (indoors). it also produces detailed images indoors and out. Additionally, videos recorded on this device have a wide dynamic range, pleasing colors and skin tones, and effective stabilization even on the move.
Cameras have disadvantages, such as limited dynamic range in photos, visible noise in photos (especially in low light conditions), color quantization, hue shift, tactile artifacts visible in photos, below average zoom performance, screen projections white balance in outdoor photos and videos with little detail in low light conditions.
