Anyone who unlocks a trophy in a game on PlayStation 5 needs to know that the DualSense controller detects microphone sound by default. However, the function can be disabled.
The PlayStation 5 aims to take the gaming experience of its users to a new level and, among other things, extends the trophy function of the console: after unlocking a trophy, players can watch a video recording the reception trophy on the screen. The special feature: the DualSense controller records the user’s voice when receiving a trophy and then plays it back in the video.
The microphone and trophy videos can be disabled
The DualSense controller’s microphone is on by default and does not record voice in multiplayer sessions, but records it when it receives a trophy. Greetings for the brilliant unlocked achievements are recorded. If you don’t want to, you have the option to disable both recording and trophy videos altogether. However, you also miss potentially funny moments that you may not have even consciously noticed.
A reddit thread is growing steadily with more and more reports from PS5 owners who are happy with defeated bosses and have received trophies in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Souls series titles. One user writes that the trophy video functionality, including audio recording, was apparently developed explicitly for Souls players.
Incidentally, logging can simply be turned off in the system settings of the PlayStation 5. This is obviously useful not only for data protection reasons, but also for another reason, according to a reddit user: the tactile effects and adaptive activation buttons. they are automatically adjusted to low settings as long as the microphone is turned on. The feedback is consequently weaker, presumably because otherwise the microphone would pick up noises from the controller.
