The bloodbath on October 31 in central Quebec caused by a man armed with a saber shocked many people.

Despite the horror and trauma, however, several citizens have seen their requests for help denied by the IVAC program, which does not necessarily compensate all relatives of the victims.

In a ministerial note obtained by TVA Nouvelles, the Minister of Justice, Simon Jolin-Barrette, orders that all those affected by this tragic event receive the necessary assistance.

“I want to make sure there are no victims left behind,” Jolin-Barette said. We talk about psychological support for close friends, not recognized by the IVAC. We’re talking about post-traumatic support, in particular, you know, it’s an extremely traumatic event. “

When a request is refused by the IVAC, it is redirected to the Victims of Crime Assistance Center (CAVAC), where the person can be supported.

“These people will not be left without a net. We will certainly be able to take care of them “, says Nadia Morin, General Manager of CAVAC de la Capitale-Nationale and Chaudière-Appalaches.

Ms. Morin explains that the people supported by CAVAC could be witnesses or people rescued during the murder. Relatives of the victims can also get help.

“What we are saying about traumatic shock is that the faster the intervention, the lower the risks are when the person subsequently develops post-traumatic stress,” he adds.
