Lesson: 3 minutes

Lorient doctor Patrick Zemb, 63, believes that only a daily intake of vitamin D can prevent covid-19. The obstetrician gynecologist appeals to the health authorities.

When did your interest in vitamin D start and why?

I am a gynecologist, obstetrician, freelance in Lorient since 1992. I have been working since 1986 in the hospitals of the Groupement hospitalier de Bretagne Sud (GHBS). In 2014 I read an article, published in an Inserm (National Health and Medical Research) report, which titled “Breast Cancer and Vitamin D Status, The Link Is Established”. I was amazed! As a gynecologist, if I could have a way to reduce the frequency of breast cancer, I had to put him in touch! I approached the rheumatologists at the hospital, who knew vitamin D very well. I first prescribed the recommended protocol to my patients, with occasional ampoule taking, called load (the famous Zyma-D). But I immediately had doubts about the effectiveness of this dosage.

You have been giving vitamin D to all of your patients personally, but on a daily basis, since 2017. What feedback do you have?

I remained between two waters until 2016. Until the commented slide show by American doctor Bruce Hollis finally convinced me: everything indicates that the daily intake of vitamin D is the most effective in terms of prevention, in terms of concerns. acute respiratory infections. This is not a theory, it is a proven fact! All the data published since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic points in the same direction. I have established my CléDSol protocol since 2017, after the validation of Prof. Jean-Claude Souberbielle, hospital doctor at the Necker hospital in Paris and international referent. Three years later, I performed and measured a drop of 1000 dosages in four months, which attest to a constant and sufficient concentration of vitamin D in the blood, winter and summer, in the patients concerned. Of course I also apply it to myself!

Neither the Academy of Medicine nor the WHO still recommends taking vitamin D every day …

That there is a vitamin D deficiency in winter, linked to the lack of sunlight and its scarcity in the diet, everyone agrees on this. That it is necessary to avoid the deficiency also by integrating. If health authorities continue to advocate intermittent vitamin D intake, it is because it has historically been effective in the fight against rickets and osteoporosis. And then, it was felt that people would not stick to the daily hold. This argument can no longer be heard in the midst of the covid crisis. Children or adults, everyone today has an interest.

Is there any medical contraindication to this daily vitamin D intake?

Only in the context of specific pre-existing diseases, such as hypersensitivity to vitamin D or sarcoidosis. Hence the interest in always seeking the preventive opinion of your doctor.

Do you think you can be heard beyond the circle of believers?

After the first wave of covids, I co-authored a historical publication in the Journal of global antimicrobial resistance (Jigat) with ten experts from eight nationalities. I am currently participating in several international videoconferences. Our common goal is to alert health authorities, based on facts, not opinions.
