Coronavirus: Some encouraging data, according to Public Health France – 20 minutes

  • The weekly epidemiological points of Public Health France allow for a closer follow-up, and within a week, of the main indicators of the health crisis.
  • Incidence, hospitalizations, ICU admissions … Some data for November 12 give hope for an improvement in the coming weeks.
  • To better understand these developments, 20 minutes gives you a video summary.

A glow at the end of the tunnel? The weekly epidemiological update on Thursday 12 November, deciphered this Friday by French public health experts, finally gives some signs of improvement in the health crisis. In fact, for the first time since mid-July, the number of new positive cases for Covid-19 is decreasing: – 14%. This suggests that restrictive measures, curfews and imprisonment are starting to bear fruit on the incidence.

Hospitalizations and deaths

A slight improvement that will take time to reach the hospitals. In fact, admissions in general and in intensive care continue to increase, but considerably lower than in the previous week. However, remember that the numbers of hospitalizations and intensive care hospitalizations are still very high today: as Jean Castex recalled during the press conference on Thursday evening, “we have been hospitalized in these days every day. 30 seconds and one admission to intensive care every 3 minutes ”.

The number of deaths continues to increase quite sharply: + 29% in one week. This is not surprising as in recent days we have fluctuated between 400 and 500 deaths per day from Covid-19.

Mental health and prevention

This epidemiological point is once again concerned with the mental health of the French. And the data, unsurprisingly, are not particularly reassuring. The number of people with depressive states has doubled in a month and a half, from 11% in late September to 21% in early November. The French most affected by these disorders are those who declare a very difficult financial situation, with a history of psychological disorders, the inactive and the young.

Finally, the last interesting point addressed in this report: the relationship with preventive actions. The Coviprev study (conducted every month) shows that social interactions decreased significantly in November. In detail, we see that not everyone does not strictly comply with the containment and barrier measures. Therefore, men between 35 and 49 years of age respect imprisonment less and men between 25 and 34 wear masks less in public than the rest of the French.
