Do masks really protect us? | Radio Erzgebirge

According to Professor Schwarze, self-sewn fabric masks and surgical masks passed the test very well. There, the fabric is often spread out in folds or in several layers, so that the air can easily be deflected.

The FFP3 masks also passed the test and also offer better self-protection than other masks. However, because the masks are very fine meshed, breathing is more strenuous. The FFP masks must therefore not be worn for more than two consecutive hours and with a break of 30 minutes.

Neckerchiefs and shawls performed poorly in the experiment. Since these are generally made of a thinner material, no effect on exhaled air has been determined.
