Chinese drone manufacturer DJI has launched the DJI Mini 2. According to the announcement, it is a camera drone that weighs less than 249 grams. It is the successor to the Mavic Mini.
The drone
Like the previous model, the Mini 2 can be folded for easy transport. The technology to connect the remote control to the drone is more stable in the new device and has a range of up to 6 kilometers in optimal conditions. Thanks to the new motors, one battery charge is enough for 31 minutes of flight. Acceleration and speed have also increased. Additionally, the Mini 2 can withstand winds up to a force of 24 miles per hour, which equates to around 39 kilometers per hour.
The fly
During the flight, the drone sends a live feed to the user’s smartphone. According to the notification, users can track the drone via GPS. The cameras on the underside of the device “map” the ground to assist the drone in its automated landing. Additional functions are “Geo Fencing” (keeps drones away from certain areas such as airports), “Return to Home” (drone returns to pilot) and “Altitude Lock” (drone does not exceed or fall below defined heights ).
The camera
The drone can take 12 megapixel photos and record videos in up to 4k resolution at 30 frames per second. Users can save images in JPEG or RAW format. The three-axis gimbal compensates for drone movements, wind and more to keep the camera steady. With 1080p recording quality, riders can zoom twice without loss, four times with loss. Various pre-installed smart modes support you while recording and taking photos. With one click, the drone performs preset movement patterns and records them.
Social media and accessories
According to the notification, the drone can connect directly to the smartphone to make it easier to share content on social media. After landing, the content is transferred at a rate of 20 megabytes per second. There are various editing tools for content in the DJI Fly app. Since video recordings can take up a lot of storage space, users can “trim” them before downloading to save space.
There are four accessories for the drone:
-
The DJI Mini Bag + for transport,
-
the charging showcase to present the drone,
-
the Creative DIY Kit to embellish the Mini 2 with custom or blank stickers, self-produced,
-
and the Snap Adapter, an adapter to attach a small LED screen to the drone on which to write messages.
The DJI Mini 2 is now available at authorized resellers and in the DJI store. The drone costs 459 euros in this shop. Bundled with extra batteries, spare parts and more, it costs 599 euros.
