After much discussion in Gameweek 9 I finally decided to transfer Mohamed Salah (£ 12.2 million) from my squad at 00:40 on Saturday morning. This is the last time I have made a transfer all season.
Instead of opting for the obvious Bruno Fernandes (£ 10.8 million), I went for long-term play and brought Kevin De Bruyne (£ 11.6 million) which I knew I wanted for the predictable.
With two free transfers it didn’t seem so risky to get rid of Salah, especially with the potential for him to lose another week of play.
As you can see below it didn’t go well.
With just 50 points he undid all of the previous Gameweek’s hard work and saw a big red arrow.
The big question is whether to get Salah back right away while watching a team without Jamie Vardy (£ 10.2 million) and I wonder if I really want to be captain De Bruyne.
From what Klopp said it looks like he is now available and training
“Salah trained with the team yesterday and looked really good. The test was negative so if nothing has changed from yesterday, it is available. Now we have to see what we do with it because it was quarantined up to three days ago. “- Jurgen Klopp
There is no guarantee yet that he will play Brighton, so I will be very focused on seeing the result of the Champions League match between Liverpool and Atalanta on Wednesday.
The ideal situation is that it plays a role in the game and comes out unscathed. Given that he has had no symptoms and is back in training, would you think (or hopefully?) That it will be okay to play a Brighton team that will be under one of their key players in Tariq Lamptey (£ 4.8 million).
The reason I’m so anxious to get him back right away is simple, Captain. I think Jamie Vardy is the best captain option for Gameweek 10, but Salah offers a great option, not just for this week but for many Gameweeks to come:
- Gameweek 12 – Fulham (a)
- Gameweek 14 – Crystal Palace (a)
- Gameweek 15 – West Brom (h)
The rotation I mentioned in my previous article with a Manchester City player is just too good to turn down.
It’s important not to think too much sometimes, and a fit Salah should really be on my team.
To get to that point I’ll probably have to do the unthinkable and sell one Son of Heung-Min (£ 9.5 million) or Harry Kane (11.0 million pounds).
I fully understand the subject of form, but I am a fixtures man and until Gameweek 16 I have no intention of captaining any of these players. That doesn’t necessarily mean they need to be sold, but I don’t have a better way to fund the moves I want to make and in the end I’d rather own Salah than Kane …… .for now.
Kane may have been explosive towards the start of the season, but his highest score in the last four weeks of play is 9 points. In fact, in the last four weeks of play he only had 9 shots in the box.
Twelve players have a higher no-penalty xG than Kane in the last four. In the first five weeks of play he was third, only behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£ 7.8 million) e Sadio Mané (£ 12.1 million).
Kane is still fairly consistent, but the explosiveness seems to be on a downtrend and that’s what makes me feel I can get away with a few weeks of play.
Choosing an economic striker to finance Salah’s move is difficult. There are still so many options to choose from, but it is Patrick Bamford (£ 6.1 million) which I am considering.
I am constantly impressed with the number of possibilities Leeds United creates for him. In fact, they have created a total of 98 chances so far this season, which equals Aston Villa and just nine behind Liverpool at the top.
From those 98 occasions, Bamford has already had 31 shots in the area throughout the season. No other player has had so many players with Salah (26) and Kane (25) in second and third place respectively.
Even if we filter the first few weeks of the game where there were a lot of goals, and maybe the teams were adjusting to a slightly different new kind of season, it’s still promising for Bamford.
In the last four weeks of play he has had 18 shots in the box, five more Trézéguet (5.3 million pounds) per second. No player has more involvement than the intended goals and was involved in 80% of Leeds’ goals.
Ollie Watkins (£ 6.1 million) is another option to choose and he has penalties in his locker which is a big plus. However from open play there is really no competition between the two. Watkins still has a chance to join the team, but I think it’s probably time for me to walk away Neal maupay (£ 6.4 million) which sucked my team with no return from my Gameweek 5 Wildcard.
The only question left is who Salah comes for. Is between Marcus Rashford (£ 9.5 million) and Son who will leave me with the money in the bank to upgrade each other in a few weeks of playing Mané or Raheem Sterling (£ 11.5 million) across the board.
I think most people would side with the Rashford sale. He looked tired and rusty against West Brom, wasting a big chance at Fernandes.
However, when you compare the two over the past four weeks of play, it’s pretty close. Both players had only four shots in the box, but Rashford created six chances against Son’s two.
I also prefer Manchester United games with Southampton (a) and West Ham (a) against Tottenham Hotspur against Chelsea (a) and Arsenal (h).
A lot has been done about Spurs being better against stronger teams because they can play on the counterattack, but I don’t expect Chelsea or Arsenal to attack them like Manchester City did. I think both games could be close.
If it were long term, I would probably keep Son, but if I can double the Mané or Sterling, I only need two weeks of play at the most, so Rashford could get the nod as a bit of a differential with a bit of better devices in my book.
